Every booking gets a confirmation email and a reminder email. SMS is an extra channel that runs alongside them.
How credit works
You have two balances, and they are spent in this order.
Your monthly allowance comes with your plan and refills at the start of each billing period. Anything left over does not roll into the next period.
Your top-up balance is credit you have bought, and it does not expire. It is only touched once the allowance for the period is used up.
Both are visible under SMS billing on rantevo.com, along with what you have sent. Top-ups are bought there too.
What a message costs
Cost depends on the destination country and on message length. A message over the standard length is split into segments and billed per segment, so a short reminder costs less.
The exact per-country price is shown on the SMS billing page before you spend anything.
Why an SMS might not have sent
Email and SMS are sent independently, so an SMS failing never stops the email. If a customer got the email but not the text, one of these is why:
- Not enough credit. Both balances were empty when the reminder was due.
- The country is not supported. Not every destination is available, and the list is on the SMS billing page.
- The number is not a mobile, or was typed wrongly. Landlines cannot receive SMS.
- The customer opted out of SMS.
- Your subscription is not active. SMS stops when billing lapses; email does not.
You can see what was attempted for any booking in its history, which is the fastest way to tell "we never tried" from "we tried and it failed".
Turning it off
SMS is per-customer and opt-out — nobody is texted who asked not to be. If you would rather not use SMS at all, do not top up. With no balance the SMS leg is skipped and email carries on as normal.
